With the project as currently designed, no turbine would be visible from the village of Barbirey-sur-Ouche. The turbines in the Saint-Jean-de-Bœuf sector would, however, be visible from the high ground north-west of the village.

Repowering photomontages
For the village itself, the concern is that the 180-metre turbines could later be replaced by taller ones: this is known as “repowering”.
France plans to increase the output of its national wind fleet. Repowering means replacing existing turbines with newer, more powerful models after 15 to 20 years of operation. It brings higher tax revenue for local authorities and better efficiency and performance for the wind farm’s owner. To achieve this, turbine height is increased to as much as 240 m.
For example, while the Grands Communaux project cannot be seen from Barbirey-sur-Ouche with 180 m turbines, the following photomontages show that with 240 m turbines (a type already installed elsewhere in France), those in the Saint-Jean-de-Bœuf sector would be visible from the high ground of the village.
